Shenzhen — power stations from the engineer who built DJI's battery department, sold like consumer electronics, which is both the appeal and the caveat.
EcoFlow was founded in Shenzhen in 2017 by Wang Lei, who established and ran DJI's battery R&D department before leaving to build power stations, and it has since put itself in 140-plus countries on the strength of crowdfunded launches that became a full product line. The hardware is genuinely capable — the DELTA Pro 3 lists 4,096 watt-hours of LFP storage and 4,000 watts of AC output — but every number on the spec sheet is EcoFlow's own, and the last two years of the five-year warranty are gated behind app registration.
Most of the off-grid shelf on this site is components — the Victron Energy school, where you size the parts and own the wiring. EcoFlow is the other school: the sealed box with a handle, built by people who came from consumer electronics and never pretended otherwise.
The pedigree is specific. Founder Wang Lei established DJI’s battery R&D department and led it for three years before leaving to start EcoFlow, which its own company page dates to 2017. Drone batteries are an unforgiving apprenticeship — weight, discharge rate and thermal behavior all matter at once — and it shows in how quickly the products matured.
EcoFlow’s range spans portable power products for different loads and uses. Start with required energy, continuous output, charging options, portability, and any expansion you need. Compare the exact model and its accessories as a system.
The DELTA Pro 3 is the clearest statement of what the company can do: EcoFlow lists 4,096Wh of LFP capacity, 4,000W of continuous AC output with an 8,000W surge rating, expansion to 12kWh per unit, an IP65-rated battery pack, and “4,000 cycles to 80% capacity.”
Every one of those numbers is a manufacturer figure. The cycle-life claim at least names its endpoint — 80% of original capacity, not death — which is more honest framing than much of the category manages. But nobody outside EcoFlow has run four thousand cycles on your behalf, and no third-party test regime stands behind the sheet. That caveat applies to this entire shelf; we repeat it wherever it applies.
The warranty has an asterisk. The DELTA Pro 3’s five years is structured as three years standard plus two more upon app registration. A battery you must enroll in an ecosystem to fully warrant is a battery with a condition attached, and conditions like that outlive people’s memory of accepting them.
Read performance claims with their conditions. Runtime and charging results depend on loads, settings, temperature, and available input. The model’s specification sheet is the starting point for a comparison, not a prediction for every trip.
It’s a sealed appliance. When something fails in year six, there is no published repair documentation or out-of-warranty service pricing we could find — the opposite of the documented-in-public approach that makes Victron systems maintainable for decades.
Even the founding year wobbles. EcoFlow’s page says 2017; the founder’s business-school profile says 2016. Small thing, but this site runs on dates, and we use the manufacturer’s.
Backup power that has to work without a project attached. Storm prep, medical devices, the fridge through an outage.
Weekends. Campsites, tailgates, job-site convenience away from classified anything.
The van-curious. A station buys you time to decide whether you’re really building a proper DC system.
Not for: permanent installations, engine spaces, or anywhere a certification matters — those ratings belong to fixed systems and named models, not to a box with a handle. Compare Jackery for volume-brand pricing and Goal Zero for the polished end.
The engineering lineage is real. DJI’s battery department is a harder school than most of this category attended.
LFP with named endpoints. Stating “4,000 cycles to 80%” is better practice than a bare cycle count, even as a self-published figure.
They moved the category. Crowdfunded stations became a serious product class partly because EcoFlow kept forcing the pace.
When the power has to arrive already assembled — and the buyer knows whose numbers are on the box — we reach for EcoFlow.
