Which COAST light fits camp and everyday work?
Short answer
Choose the form of the light first. COAST’s XPH34R works on a headband or in the hand, the XP11R is a focusable handheld, the RL35R adds voice-controlled headlamp functions, and the EAL35R provides area lighting. Match the battery arrangement and protection rating to the exact model and environment.
Lighting a walking route, looking inside a compartment and sharing a meal at camp are different jobs. A bright handheld can do some of each, but the way a light is mounted and spreads its beam may be more useful than additional output.
Which format fits the task?
Pick the format before the output figure: COAST describes the XPH34R as a headlamp that doubles as a handheld, the XP11R as a focusing handheld, the RL35R as a voice-controlled headlamp and the EAL35R as a lantern.

Is a detachable headlamp useful?
It can be, when a task needs light from an angle your forehead can’t give: COAST describes the XPH34R as “a headlamp and handheld in one.” A magnetic base requires a suitable surface and a secure placement; do not assume that attaching it anywhere nearby produces a safe or useful work-light position.
A handheld such as the XP11R may be simpler when the task is brief and one hand is available. For cooking or sorting gear with both hands, a worn or stationary light often makes more sense.
What does voice control add?
Voice control lets you change the RL35R or EAL35R without reaching for it, which helps when reaching for the light would interrupt a task. COAST says the commands “adjust brightness, change beam shape, switch colors, and more,” but neither page lists them. That is not evidence that commands will be recognized in every noisy setting, and we have not tested recognition in wind or around machinery. Learn the physical controls too.
For shared spaces, think about where the beam lands and whether it shines into other people’s eyes. A lantern’s area illumination and a headlamp’s moving beam create different experiences at the same table.
Can they share spare batteries?
Only partly: the XPH34R and XP11R both list three AAAs as the disposable option, but each takes a different rechargeable pack, and the RL35R and EAL35R use other cells again. The current XPH34R listing specifies ZX955 or three AAAs; the XP11R specifies ZX1000 or three AAAs; the RL35R specifies ZX850 or two CR123 cells; the EAL35R specifies its built-in ZITHION™ battery or four AAs. Follow the exact instructions for holders and compatible types. “Rechargeable” is a broad category, not a common battery standard.
Which specifications matter next?
Compare output and runtime for the mode you intend to use, then verify environmental limits. The selected XPH34R, XP11R and RL35R carry IP54 ratings; do not treat that as an immersion or hazardous-location approval. Read the feature text as closely as the numbers. The RL35R page promises “four beam colors” and then names five: “white flood, white spot, green, blue, or anti-glare red.”

The RL35R product page does not list the individual commands, does not say whether voice control can be switched off, and does not mention an app. The headlamp also has a Variable Light Control dial, so brightness can be adjusted by hand.
- Can the COAST XPH34R be used as a handheld light?
- Yes, by COAST's description. COAST calls the XPH34R "a headlamp and handheld in one," adds built-in magnets to "attach the LED light to metal surfaces," and lists hardhat mounting "using silicone-lined straps or included mounting clips." The XPH34R takes a ZX955 rechargeable pack or three AAA batteries and is listed at IP54.
- How long does the COAST EAL35R lantern run?
- The COAST EAL35R runtime depends on the color mode. COAST lists it at 120 lumens for 16 hours in warm, 500 lumens for 5 hours in cool and 1,000 lumens for 3 hours in white. Its battery line reads "Built-In ZITHION™ Rechargeable or 4 x AA (Alkaline Not Included)," and the EAL35R page gives no separate runtime for AA batteries.
