Princeton Tec Vizz Tactical MPLS: one light, several ways to carry it
Share this story ↓A closer look at the Vizz Tactical MPLS: its mounting options, 550-lumen high mode, AAA power and why the 66-hour runtime belongs to the low setting.

The Princeton Tec Vizz Tactical MPLS is interesting for more than its output figure. It combines a white spot beam with additional light modes and a mounting kit that lets the same unit move between a headstrap and compatible equipment.
This is a researched product spotlight, checked October 26, 2026. We have not measured its output, tested its runtime or evaluated its mounts in the field.
Read the output and runtime together
The manufacturer lists these white-light settings:
| Setting | Output | Runtime |
|---|---|---|
| Spot high | 550 lumens | 4 hours |
| Spot low | 50 lumens | 66 hours |
The 550-lumen and 66-hour headlines describe different settings. They should not be combined into a promise of 550 lumens for 66 hours.
There is another important distinction in the operating manual: runtime ends when output reaches 10% of its initial value, using the stated measurement method. Reserve time is listed separately and covers further declining output. Neither number promises constant full brightness throughout. The manual bases its performance figures on three alkaline batteries.
For a buyer, this makes the intended task more useful than the largest number on the page. Consider how much light you need, for how long, and whether you can change batteries during use. A representative trial before a trip will tell you more about your own requirements than assuming the published endpoint matches your preferred brightness.
The mounting kit is part of the appeal
Princeton Tec lists an NVG adapter plate, a bracket for MOLLE or the standard nylon headstrap, and the headstrap itself as included. This is a choice of carrying formats; it does not establish compatibility with every helmet or piece of equipment.
Our practical consideration is whether you will actually use those alternatives. If the lamp will always stay on a headstrap, compare the complete package with a simpler headlamp. If you expect to move it between compatible mounting points, check the manufacturer’s fitting instructions and the actual attachment interface before buying.

AAA power and additional modes
The product page lists three AAA alkaline batteries and a weight of 92g. It also lists red, green, blue and infrared modes alongside the dimmable white spot beam. We have not evaluated the usefulness of those additional modes for any specialist application.
Replaceable batteries are a practical choice to weigh against your existing charging routine. Think about which batteries your other equipment uses and how you will keep charged or fresh spares available. The manual describes supported battery types and notes that some rechargeable types may reduce brightness; check those instructions before substituting cells.
What to check before choosing it
Princeton Tec states an IPX7 rating. The manual calls for inspecting and keeping the battery-compartment seal clean when changing batteries. We have not performed water testing, and this spotlight does not establish suitability for diving or other uses beyond the manufacturer’s instructions.
We would shortlist the Vizz Tactical MPLS when the mounting kit and replaceable-battery format solve a real need. We would compare simpler options if only ordinary headstrap use matters. Either way, judge the light by the setting you expect to use and the complete setup you will carry.
