First Tactical’s Specialist Series offers a clear size progression: Half-Day, 1-Day and 3-Day backpacks. The useful starting point is the volume and weight behind those names. Choose around your actual packing list rather than treating a day count as a promise about trip duration.

This is a researched comparison, checked October 26, 2026. We have not carried these packs under load or tested their durability. The green pack pictured above is the Specialist 3-Day 56L.

Three sizes at a glance

First Tactical publishes these approximate capacities and pack weights:

Model Capacity Weight
Half-Day 25L 2.95 lb
1-Day 36L 3.3 lb
3-Day 56L 4.45 lb

Sources: Half-Day, 1-Day, 3-Day. These are brand specifications, not our measurements.

The largest option adds 31 liters over the smallest, along with 1.5 pounds of listed pack weight before your equipment goes in. Extra room is useful when it solves a packing problem; it also makes it easier to keep adding things you may not need.

Half-Day 25L: start with the smaller kit

The Half-Day is the smallest of these three backpacks. Its product page lists five external pockets, three internal pockets, a reinforced top handle and removable or repositionable compression straps.

We would begin here for a focused daily kit, then check whether the bulky items actually fit. A jacket, food container and work accessories can use space very differently from a compact set of organizers. Lay out what you carry before deciding that a bigger pack is necessary.

1-Day 36L: the middle option

The 1-Day adds 11 liters over the Half-Day. First Tactical lists five external and three internal pockets, dual-density shoulder straps, a double-layered bottom and an internal hook-and-loop organization platform.

That makes it the middle candidate to compare when the smaller bag leaves a specific item outside. Our question would be whether that extra space is needed most days, or only occasionally. The model name alone cannot tell you whether your overnight equipment will fit.

3-Day 56L: more room, more pack

The 3-Day is the largest here, with seven external and three internal pockets listed. First Tactical describes removable or repositionable compression straps and an internal organization platform.

We would consider it when the packing list is genuinely bulky, while checking the complete loaded weight and how it carries on your body. Published capacity does not establish a comfortable load limit. We have not measured one, and we would not choose the 56L simply because it has the most room.

What the series shares—and what needs a try-on

All three product pages list 1000D water-resistant nylon, YKK zippers and Duraflex hardware. Those are useful construction details, but water-resistant fabric is not a promise that an entire loaded bag is waterproof.

The supplied campaign image emphasizes toughness:

For a practical comparison, load the candidate with your normal kit and check shoulder fit, access to frequently used pockets and whether compression straps obstruct the openings you use most. Check any organizer or pouch against its intended attachment points rather than assuming every accessory fits.

If even the 25L model is more than you need, our First Tactical Summit Side Satchel spotlight covers a smaller carry format. The right choice begins with the kit and the way you reach it—not the largest capacity or the most forceful slogan.
